Greetings from a staff person who keeps the organ moving and parishioners singing Lutheran hymns on Sunday mornings. Before starting the MMA position in January 2006 I was an Iowa resident for years from the Mason City area. This was a good place to discover one’s passion for music since it happens to be the birthplace of that incredibly talented music maker Meredith Willson. While growing up in northwest Iowa I was able to study piano for thirteen years and organ for several years. It was not until I completed my masters in Health Care Administration that I became more serious about organ study.
For several years I took weekend courses and organ lessons through Drake University’s Dr. Carl Staplin.
In addition to organist duties for early worship I organize the adult choir selections for Monday evening rehearsals, accompany their anthems and direct from the bench. My approach to music has been to sing and play music for the glory of God. We are fortunate that St. Paul’s offers a variety of worship times and styles of worship to choose from during the week. Some have not experienced a great deal of hymn singing or liturgical type of music. Others have been exposed to praise or contemporary music led by musicians and song leaders. You will find warmth, joy and meaning in whatever type of service you participate in at St. Paul’s. For those who enjoy singing as part of a choir or small group, or enjoy playing an instrument there is a place for you! In addition to MMA position, since 2002 I have a company, ADC Services that provides Third Party Administrative services to businesses in the Midwest. I also enjoy being with my son, daughter and granddaughter or getting outdoors to run, bike or ski. I am also a member of the South Metro Chorale, Twin Cities American Guild of Organists and the North Iowa chapter.
